ABOUT EXPLORERS

From Canoeing to Walking, our leaders have a vast range of skills. This website details some of these for prospective members to see, and hopefully the photos section will give you an insight into what we do – from Conservation Camps in the Peak District to Walking Camps in Snowdonia!
For those of you that may be interested in getting some more information, please visit the contact page where more information is given.
If you are already a member of the unit, check out Program page to get more information.

What Do We Do?

Explorer scouts meet weekly and run an active programme covering subjects entitled

physical recreation, skills, values, relationships, community service, skills, global, Outdoor and Adventure. Specific ideas for activities are generated by the explorers and organised by the leaders and explorers together. Camps and other weekend activities are also run regularly to allow us to complete some of the more adventurous elements of the programme. In this way we take the activities and skills that many have previously developed with the scout section or outside scouting and take them to the next level.

Whilst participating in these events explorer scouts can earn one of many activity specific badges (including air activities, canoeing, climbing, creative arts, motor sports, mountain biking, snowboarding, street sports and water activities) as well as three progressive awards which cover a range of subjects. These progressive awards are also heavily linked to the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme so that explorers can also earn these awards within their explorer programme.

Please go to the Program for forthcoming opportunities. past programmes have included:- Climbing, Canoing, Archery, fencing, Cooking and International Camps.
